Brother Charlie Joseph Moreland (Fall 1948) Transitions Into Omega Chapter
Of note -- Brother Moreland appears in the iconic 1949 Alpha Rho Chapter photo (pictured below) from the Morehouse College "Torch" yearbook soon after crossing the burning sands into the fraternity.
Brother Moreland's Obituary:
Charlie J. Moreland was born September 14, 1928, to Mary and William D. Moreland in Warren County, Georgia. He graduated from Warrenton High School in Warrenton, Georgia, and earned a B. A. degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College in 1951. In 1954, he earned an M. A. degree in School Administration and Guidance from Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University).
Brother Moreland served the community in many organizations, including being a member of several boards: Trustee Board, Morehouse College; Trustee Board, Morehouse School of Medicine; Trustee Board, Atlanta University Center, Inc.; Trustee Board, Atlanta Area Service for the Blind; Board of Directors, Eta Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Board of Directors, Friendship Center Corporation; Member-at-Large, West Atlanta District, Boy Scouts of America, and Board of Directors, Southwest Community Hospital. Brother Moreland was a Fall 1948 initiate of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Alpha Rho Chapter.
The Celebration of Life for Charlie J. Moreland was held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church, in Atlanta, GA. In keeping with his Chapterly support over the years, Brother Moreland's final request was for donations to either the "Alpha Rho Chapter Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund" or the Fund for Morehouse College.
